Shrivenham CE Primary School earns national accreditation for sustainable travel Modeshift STARS award

Shrivenham Church of England Primary School is proud to announce that it has been awarded accreditation under the Modeshift STARS Education scheme in recognition of its work to promote walking, cycling, scooter and other sustainable travel among pupils, staff and families.
Modeshift STARS is a nationally recognised accreditation programme supported by the Department for Transport. It celebrates schools that show excellence in encouraging active, safe and environmentally responsible travel through well-designed travel plans, ongoing initiatives and community-wide engagement.
At Shrivenham, a range of initiatives have contributed to this achievement, from encouraging pupils to walk or cycle, to embedding sustainable travel as a key part of everyday school life. The accreditation reflects the school’s commitment to healthier lifestyles, reduced traffic congestion around the school, and a greener, more sustainable community.
Head of School, Cora Williams said:
“We are delighted to receive Modeshift STARS accreditation, it is a celebration of the collective effort by our pupils, staff and families to travel more sustainably. This accreditation demonstrates our commitment to nurturing not only academic growth, but also health, wellbeing and responsibility towards our environment.”
She added that the school hopes this recognition will encourage more families to adopt active travel: walking, cycling or scooting to school, contributing to safer roads, cleaner air, and a stronger sense of community.
The school plans to build on this momentum, continuing to promote active travel and exploring further sustainable-travel initiatives next year.
