Celebrating Young Sporting Talent at cambrian Sports Awards

Pupils from across the Faringdon schools within Cambrian Learning Trust were celebrated last night at the first Sports Awards, held at Faringdon Community College.

The awards marked the first dedicated sports awards event for primary-aged pupils in Faringdon and surrounding area, recognising the outstanding talent, determination and commitment shown by students across the Trust's schools.

Created to celebrate the vital role sport and physical education play in young people's development, the evening showcased pupils who have demonstrated exceptional effort, resilience and achievement both in competition and in their wider contribution to school sport.

Schools nominated pupils across a wide range of categories spanning dance, cricket, football and inspiring leadership, with the evening culminating in the presentation of the prestigious Sports Boy and Sports Girl awards, chosen from nominees across all participating schools.

The event was organised by Paul Chadwick, whose work leading enrichment opportunities across the Trust continues to provide pupils with opportunities to discover passions, build confidence and develop character. He said:

"We are so proud of the work our schools do in supporting children in sport and PE. Events like these highlight the strong position our schools put our students in as they move to secondary school.

"The event was a great evening that recognised quality, perseverance, effort and dedication to PE and sport and the students came away with not just a medal but an overwhelming sense of pride and achievement."

The evening also featured an inspirational address from former Olympic fencer James Beevers, who shared his experiences of elite sport and spoke to pupils about the Olympic values that have guided him since the age of seven.

His message of perseverance, excellence and personal growth resonated strongly with the audience and reinforced the values that underpin sport across Cambrian Learning Trust schools.

Richard Evans, Chief Executive of Cambrian Learning Trust, said:

"Sport has a unique ability to inspire confidence, resilience and ambition in young people. These awards celebrate not only outstanding performances but the character, determination and teamwork that help every child grow, flourish and fulfil their potential. We are incredibly proud of every pupil recognised."

The Cambrian Sports Awards reflect the Trust's commitment to nurturing growth and inspiring minds by providing opportunities that enable every young person to discover their strengths, develop their talents and achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.

Looking ahead, Cambrian Learning Trust is excited to celebrate even more sporting success at the Wantage Schools Sports Awards next week. Now in their nineth year, the awards have become a highlight of the sporting calendar for those schools, recognising and celebrating the dedication, achievement and sporting spirit of pupils across the Trust's schools and continuing Cambrian's commitment to nurturing growth and inspiring minds through sport and enrichment.
