Charlton Primary School in Wantage welcomed a very special visitor today as multi-talented athlete Nerys Pearce joined children for an unforgettable day of fitness, inspiration and fundraising.
As part of the Great Athletes Programme, Nerys led a sponsored fitness circuit with pupils from Years 1–6, encouraging children to challenge themselves while raising funds both for the school and the programme. She also led a whole-school assembly, sharing her remarkable journey and her medals in track and field, handcycling, swimming, basketball, and weightlifting at the Warrior and Invictus Games, and the challenges that she overcame both as a child and as an adult.
Head of School, Sam Campbell said:
“It has been a real privilege to welcome Nerys to Charlton. The children were so inspired hearing about her achievements and resilience, and they loved taking part in the fitness circuit with her. Opportunities like this really help our pupils to see what is possible when you work hard, stay positive and never give up.”
The event has already generated huge excitement across the school community, with pupils busy collecting sponsorship to help raise money for new sports equipment at Charlton Primary and to support the Great Athletes Programme, which brings world-class athletes into schools to inspire the next generation.
Nerys’ visit is part of Charlton Primary School’s commitment to promoting active, healthy lifestyles and building aspiration and resilience in its pupils.
